THE EMOTIONS

Another chilly, quiet Saturday night. After a post-dinner stroll in the dark quiet parking lot, I sat down in the lawn, gazing at the black sky, with the 3/4th moon shining like a half-bitten boiled potato.
With many thoughts lingering, my mind with back to the climax of the movie "Amrutha"(Kannathil Mutthamittal in tamil) portraying the emotions of a nine-year old girl, who has come looking for her biological mother, along with her foster parents.
The little girl, Amrutha, is shy and hesitant to face her, she has a prepared list of questions, but doesn't go past questions like,
"Why did you leave me and go?" and "Did you cuddle me even once?"
The biological mother is probably wary of the truth that the small baby she left immediately after birth is still alive, and has been raised well. A militant now, for all the trainee militants, she is a woman who has hardened with time, apparently emotionless, and a fierce fighter. But the innocent questions of her daughter bring the tears back, that she swallowed away all these years, trying to forget the loss of her husband and the situation where she is forced to leave her baby.
Although not evident on the screen, I wondered what the foster parents must have gone through, to take the decision to tell Amrutha the truth about her birth, and take on the dangerous mission to find her biological mother.
The mother, probably wants Amrutha to meet her biological mother and realize that her decision reaffirms the love she has for her.
The father is happy and content, that his upbringing is honest, and Amrutha knows the truth through him and not anyone else and will appreciate this fact later.

A wonderful movie, handled amazingly by Mani Ratnam. A Masterpiece indeed.
